School Activities

In addition to one-time visits, schools may ask you to support activities and long-term projects. Here are some of the ways you might support maths, science, and technology education.

Transpower Neighbourhood Engineers Awards

A yearly contest that awards prizes to the best and most innovative collaboration between students teachers and local engineers. Futureintech Ambassadors often act as mentors for the teams. Visit www.nea.org.nz

CREST

An international awards scheme for students in Years 6-13 to find innovative solutions in
science, technology and environmental studies. CREST projects can also be entered into local science fairs. Visit www.crest.org.nz.

Primary Science Strategy

Futureintech developed this strategy in response to a NEMP study about the importance of
getting students interested in science at a young age. These activities are supported by
Ambassadors who explain how they use science in their jobs. (See Classroom Resources.)

Careers events

Schools will often ask for Ambassadors to speak to students during career week, or
participate in a career fair. Facilitators can provide brochures, bookmarks and other
resources.

Subject units

Teachers may request an Ambassador for an extended unit on a specific subject.
For example, during ‘Maths Week’, a teacher may bring in several Ambassadors from different fields to talk about why maths is important in their work.
