Power Systems
Qualifications: tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering

Electrical and power systems engineers ensure that the electricity supply operates smoothly and respond to any problems that occur. They maintain the stability of the supply from generation to distribution , and may also work on the development of alternative sources of power such as wind farms.

"Can you imagine going home to light a wood fire so that you could cook your dinner or heat up water for a bath?  I can see how important my contribution is to the power system.  My job benefits New Zealand by helping Transpower to ‘keep the lights on’ and provide power for the society that we live and work in.  This is something that I am proud of."
