In September 2005 the Hawke's Bay branch of the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology began working with Beacon Practice teachers Carol Rimmer and Kate McLennan at Havelock North High School. This led to four young food technologists from Heinz Wattie's being trained as Futureintech Ambassadors, and the ball was rolling; I was hooked.
Since February 2006, as a member of the NZIFST Careers Committee, I have been actively working with Futureintech and the Royal Society of New Zealand, to promote science, technology and engineering careers in the food industry. The support they have given NZIFST has opened up a lot of opportunities we would not otherwise have had. I have seen the impact of Ambassadors on the work done by food technology students, and it is impressive. So when I was offered the chance to work part time for Futureintech, it was really easy to accept.
