University of Canterbury – Department of Chemical & Process Engineering
VIPs: Brent Mongillo, Principal Contaminated Sites Advisor, Canterbury Regional Council, and Helen Mongillo, Senior Contaminated Site & Hydrogeological Consultant.

Helen and Brent Mongillo will teach 13 lectures to students enrolled in the Industrial Pollution Control course. They will also organize two open seminars, on GoldSET - a Sustainability Based Remedial Options Assessment Tool and on the Ministry for the Environment's new National Environmental Standard for Contaminated Land Assessment and Management.

Massey University – School of Engineering & Advanced Technology
VIP: Dr Greg Chawynski, General Manager, Global Construction Solutions

Dr Chawynski will teach a new course in the Master of Construction Management programme: Case Studies on Commercial Administration of Construction Projects. He will also host research and professional development seminars, and advise on improvements to the Construction Management curriculum to meet industry needs.

VIP: Dr. Robert Dempster, Regulatory Affairs and New Product Development Manager, Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health Ltd.

Following up on successful VIP visits in 2008 and 2009, Robert Dempster will teach a block of seven lectures and host an open seminar on the technological practice and product development of sheep vaccines. He will also provide professional advice on the curriculum and various research projects.

Wellington Institute of Technology – School of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
VIP: Cameron Smart, IPENZ Engineering Practice Manager

Cameron Smart will play an advisory role in the update of the Strength of Materials teaching programmes, particularly in the different design methods of mechanical and structural engineers. He will review the current curriculum and resources and provide advice on how to match them to industry best practice.

Massey University – School of Engineering & Advanced Technology
VIP: Ron Macdonald, Commercial Manager, Hawkins Construction

Ron Macdonald will host research seminars on the key areas of research, the practical role of the commercial manager, and result-oriented financial management in the construction industry. Then he will chair meetings focusing on areas of improvement in the Construction Management curriculum to meet industry needs.

University of Auckland – Department of Mechanical Engineering
VIP: Mike Cook, Managing Director, Slipstream Automation Ltd.

Mike Cook will give a series of lectures and seminars to Mechatronics students and Engineering faculty, help develop two final year research projects and a new research programme in DNA extraction. He will also meet with academic staff to discuss improvements to the curriculum.

University of Canterbury - Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering
VIPs: Rob Park and Peter C Mulqueen, Senior Engineers, Novare Design

Rob Park and Peter Mulqueen from Novare Design will contribute to a new one-semester course entitled 'Structural Bridge Engineering' for post-graduate students. Rob and Peter will provide insight from their experience in design and construction of bridge structures.

Massey University: Institute of Food Nutrition & Human Health
VIP: Jim Graham, Principal Environmental Scientist, Opus International Consultants

Jim Graham will review the course direction, content and delivery of university papers on Water & Wastewater Treatment and Environmental Monitoring and Investigation Methods. He will also provide lectures on these subjects and advise on the research activities of the Roof Water Research Centre.

Victoria University: School of Engineering and Computer Science
VIP: Allan Weeks, iMonitor Limited, Founder and CEO

Allan Weeks will assist the staff with talks on the various aspects of wireless mobile monitoring and control applications. He will provide an industry perspective on the requirements for growing applications in the field of Global Monitoring and Control Solutions.

University of Auckland: Department of Marine Science
VIP: Dr. Shane Kelly, Coast and Catchment Ltd, Director

Dr. Kelly will assist in revising and testing the curriculum for a post-graduate course in aquaculture. His focus will be to address the environmental impact of aquaculture in New Zealand and the regulatory system for managing those impacts.
