Silver Fern Farms is a multinational cooperative owned by over 16,000 cattle, sheep and deer farmers. We produce beef, lamb and venison products which are exported to more than 60 countries around the globe.
During peak season we employ nearly 7,000 skilled staff at our 19 processing sites throughout New Zealand. We also have staff at our head office in Dunedin and support offices in Hastings and Christchurch.
We invest in research and technology to ensure we are at the forefront of industry developments. We recently installed innovative x-ray grading systems at our processing sites, along with other modern processing technologies such as robotic cutting machines.
Working with partners, we developed Farm IQ – farm management software. It helps farmers in gathering farm information, planning, and analysing the quality of their products, allowing them to make more informed decisions about how they farm.
We work closely with farmers, collecting and sharing information. We also get feedback from consumers before trialling new techniques on farms.
We employ people with tertiary qualifications in Food Technology, Food Science, Computer Science and Engineering. Our engineers come from Civil, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering disciplines.
