Sealord is involved in fishing, farming, processing and marketing in New Zealand and Australia. We’re one of the largest seafood companies in the southern hemisphere.
Our fishing operations include deepwater fishing and aquaculture (underwater farming). We are New Zealand's best known seafood brand; we produce the Sealord range of frozen and ready-to-eat foods sold here and overseas.
The company was established in Nelson in 1961. We’re half owned by iwi through Aotearoa Fisheries, and half by global company Nissui.
We employ over 1,100 people, who help the company earn $430 million every year. Some of our skilled workers hold certificates, diplomas or degrees in technology, engineering or science.
They work in roles such as mechanical engineer, marine engineer, fish health technician, farm manager, factory improvement engineer and maintenance technician.
Our team of food technologists and food scientists develop innovative new fish products and make improvements to existing ones.
Our people are the key to Sealord's success. We encourage an innovative, fun work environment and a positive culture. We provide employees with ongoing coaching and career development, and opportunities for promotion within the company.
Sustainable fishing is important to us, and we've invested in scientific research to improve sustainability. This led to the development of new precision seafood harvesting technology which allows us to catch fish live and in perfect condition, while safely releasing any unwanted catch.
